Hi, I'm Sarah, the baker behind Cakey Blinders, a small, family-run cake business based in Solihull.

Cakey Blinders came about after my life changed rather unexpectedly. After years of juggling a busy career, family life and everything in between, I was diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND), which left me unable to walk unassisted and meant I had to completely rethink that work -and life - looked like for me and my family.

So, I went back to something I'd always loved: baking.
​
What started at our kitchen table as a home education project with my son Henry, soon became something bigger. We built a website, learnt about costing and running a food business, started taking orders and Cakey Blinders was born!
More than just cake
​Today, I create bespoke occasion cakes for birthdays, milestones and all those moments worth celebrating, alongside cake decorating workshops where you can have a go yourself.
​
My workshops are all about creativity without the pressure, You don't need to be brilliant at cake decorating (or even know which end of a piping bag to hold!) - just come along, have some fun, learn something new and leave with something delicious.​​
​
And while you'll usually find me behind the mixer, Cakey Blinders is very much a family affair. Everyone gets roped in somewhere along the way - from deliveries and washing up, to photography, social media, development and the all-important taste testing.
​
Cakey Blinders has given me a way to build a business around a life that looks very different from the one I had planned.
​
There are still wobbles - quite literally - but I get to be creative, meet some wonderful people and make cakes that become a small part of some very special memories.
​
And I think that's pretty lovely.
​
